Who Says its a Crochet Frenzy?!

When we started thinking of Hot fashion trends this past and present season, one thing came to mind and that was Crochet garments. Then we thought of Designer LaVeta Jackson Founder of Crochet Frenzy.  In speaking with LaVeta you could just since that she loves what she is doing and we could feel her creative energy!

We where truly excited to land this interview with LaVeta and to hear where she draws her inspiration, how it all began and we didn’t waste anytime in getting right into the interview:

LFF: Good Morning, its so nice to be speaking with you.  Tell us about yourself where are you from?

LJ: I was born and raised in the North Jersey area and about 8 years ago I moved to Durham, NC where I met and married my husband, and we’ve been married now for about 4 years.

LFF: Congratulations! LaVeta Did you move your business from New Jersey to Durham, NC?

LJ: No, when I moved here from NJ I was working for the NC Department of Revenue for several years and then about a year and half ago I left the Department of Revenue and started my company with the help of my Daughter-in-Law Elizabeth Patterson.

LFF: Wow! that was a very bold move

LJ: Yes it was but I really knew it was time for me to start doing something that I loved.

LFF: How did you come up with the name Crochet Frenzy?

LJ: My Daughter-in-Law, which I believe I stated is also my Partner actually thought of the name.  Elizabeth stated “you know we are always crocheting and we are always pushing for deadlines we should call it Crochet Frenzy”.  I thought that was a great name and very catchy, and it has really been just that a Frenzy.

LFF: (slight chuckle) I love the name and I also agree that it is very catchy.  How many work with you?

LJ: Sonya believe it or not its just myself, my Daughter-in-Law Elizabeth and our Pattern Designer Gordon who has been with us for about 4 months. Gordon is just super talented and so creative.

LFF: So you are really hands on with all aspects of creating the collection and pieces

LJ: Yes very much so and I give strict attention to every piece as well as Elizabeth we bring forth things that we are proud of and that we know are worthy of the name Crochet Frenzy.

LFF: How long have you been crocheting and was this passed down to you?

LJ: Sonya, I started about 35 years ago at the age of 7.  My great Aunt taught me and when I started she taught me finger crocheting which you do with your finger not a hook and once you have mastered this and that the chain and links are even then you graduate to a hook.

LFF: Wow, that is really impressive and its kind of a family heirloom

LJ: Exactly and I have enjoyed every moment since my Aunt took the time to teach me which in turn I taught my Daughter-in-Law and the legacy continues on with us.

LFF: You know many times when we hear crocheting we think of doilies and table runners and little things like that, is that what your collection consist of?

LJ:(with a little laugh) OH NO not at all we make bathing suits, hats, scarves, pocketbooks, tank-tops and even Bedding sets and table runners because they are so popular and still people love to have something nostalgic.

LFF: Really! That is just amazing but a swimsuit how does it hold up and does it cover the parts that need to be covered and is it made out of yarn?

LJ: They hold up very well because there are so many different types of yarn, string  and different stitches that are use.  For example we use a string and a very small tight stitch and then we stitch a piece of fabric to cover the private areas and the suit is good to go.

LFF: Now what size do they come in?

LJ: We make them to fit bust sizes 32-48, so we make a wide range and we also customize and do special orders.  We are really into doing things that are very different and unique.

LFF: With you saying that how do you keep it fresh and young?

LJ: Well we are very up-to-date on the latest fashion trends and my daughter-in-law and I keep up with what the younger generation are wearing an listen to what they think is so hot.  Take for instance with regards to our hats we could have just made them like a lot of the crochet hats that you see around but we made it our own with placing more detail into them and have the raised flower on some for the ladies and bills on the others.  We wanted to make it fresh and with somewhat of a flair to it.

LFF: I did notice when I was looking at your site which all of our readers can find at www.crochetfrenzy.webs.com that you do offer a wide variety of things.  What can we expect from you for your SS 2011 collection?

LJ: Because we are always pushing ourselves and always wanting to be Fashion Forward we are going to be bringing the collection which is named Safari and it is going to feature shrugs, ruffled vest, caps, swimwear and much more you all have to just stay close to the action!

LFF: We are so excited to see what you are going to offer all of us and when do you think the line will be done and on the site?

LJ: We plan on having everything up-loaded no later then December and with a few bonuses.

LFF: We cannot wait!  Tell me what is the price range for getting some of your beautiful creations?

LJ: In all honesty it varies from $20.00 to $300.00

LFF: What exactly would cost $300.00?

LJ: That would be for our Custom made Bedding Sets and you get a Queen/Full Bed spread, Shames and Curtains

LFF: That is just incredible to think that you crochet Bed spreads, how long does it take you to put a full set together?

LJ: It can take about 4 months and it also depends on the detailing that we are doing for it as well.

LFF: LaVeta, tell me where do see yourself within the next year or so?

LJ: My ultimate goal is to become a large Manufacture and getting my collection in some high end boutiques and maybe even partnering with some designers to add to there collections.  I think with this type of business that I have it is just limitless and we can always add new and improved elements to everything that we are doing an we are pushing ourselves from being in some little box and helping people to see that crocheting isn’t an old out dated art.

LFF: I cannot begin to tell you how excited I am to have had this opportunity to interview you and to also learn more about Crochet Frenzy.  Tell me this are you showing anytime soon?

LJ: Yes we are, every year here in North Carolina they have a major Craft fair and we are showing there.

LFF: Do you have the show date and location?

LJ:  Saturday, November 2, 2010

      Designers Downtown Market

        509 N. West Street

              Raleigh, NC

       Time: 9:00am-3:00PM

LJ: We really hope that people come out and support us and we want to let our future customers know that we have a little bit of everything that we think they will love and want to add to there wardrobes or homes.

LFF: LaVeta before I let you go if you could impart one thing to others that are maybe thinking about starting their own business what would it be?

LJ: Make sure you get as much knowledge and information on what you’re trying to endeavor to do and don’t be afraid to take the risk and step out of your comfort zone.

LFF: Thank you so much for taking time out of your busy schedule to speak with me and I cannot begin to tell you how much I enjoyed speaking with you and doing this interview.

LJ: Oh thank you!

LaVeta Jackson is truly offering something very unique and refreshing and Crochet Frenzy is a name that you don’t want to forget!

As each woman engages in a multi-phase process of recovery and rehabilitation, she opens a window of opportunity presented by the end of conflict to help improve the rights, freedoms and status of women in her country. As women who go through the program assume leadership positions in their villages, actively participate in the reconstruction of their communities, build civil society, start businesses, train other women and serve as role models, they become active citizens who can help to establish lasting peace and stability.

Sunday 09/12 Couture Fashion Week!

We are back live at the Couture Fashion Week and we are even more excited to see what is going to be presented on the runways today.  Last night after the show I met some really good friends for dinner and was just trying to tell them of what we had just been apart of and it seemed like I couldn’t tell them about the fashions enough to do it justice.. I am just so happy that we got the chance to see the show!

The Grand Ballroom is empty right now except for the reporters and photographers and a few Fashionistas and Fashionistos that are starting to filter in for the big show.

Today the runway shows begins at 4pm and we are going to see 3 designers Nedret Taciroglu (Turkey), Abida Al Mahboub (Kuwait) and Siraj Sanad (Saudi Arabia).  I’m so ready and looking forward to it!  Finally it is time for the show to begin and the lights dim slightly and out walks this very somber looking woman carrying a Violin.  It is Violinist Jane Hunt and she is incredible.  She is wearing a black outfit like a corset and leggings and she is killing her performance!

Jane’s performance was excellent everyone in the audience just went crazy once she stopped playing and we just felt we where in for a treat again today.   The lights dim again slightly and we are so ready to see what is going to come out on the runway!  The music starts and its like water and kind of haunting, and then suddenly the first look at the Designers Collection takes to the runway!  This collection made me think of Pirates of the Caribbean meets Couture, the edges weren’t finished it looked as if someone had just torn the fabric and the underskirt was of tulle.. We give you Nedret Taciroglu’s Collection!

I have to say this collection was rather different for me and I’m not overly sure if I liked it or not but, the hair and makeup on the models was fabulous! We also met a women in the audience and she stated her daughter Natalie was one of the models in Nedret Taciroglu’s show.

Nedret seemed to have combined two different collection we started off with Pirates of the Caribbean and then flowed into something totally different.  For me I didn’t see the cohesion of the line but I loved certain elements of the collection!

Wow! there isn’t any pause in between the shows today the logo for the Next designer is up on the LCD screen already!

See all all the photos from the Couture Fashion Week on our Facebook page for LaPaz Image/Event Consultants http://www.facebook.com/pages/Philadelphia-PA/LaPaz-ImageEvent-Consultants/234539408190

Sunday 9/12 Couture Fashion Week Continues!

Continuation of the 4pm show!

The second show is ready to start and the Designers’ Logo is on the LCD Screen, but a very long pause takes place.  Everyone is wondering what is happening because nothing is out on the runway.  We believe that the two shows were combined and you’ll know why I said this at the end.

I’m really excited over these particular Designers’ because I love the clothing from there Country and the fabrics are just beautiful and they have such a grace and unspoken elegance.  I thought may be we will see the traditional clothing from this region but you know I was wrong once before with regards to the Korean Creation Collection. LOL!!  Just to give you a little education on the wardrobe of Saudi’s and Kuwaitis the men kind of dress the same and the Traditional clothing consist of this:

* Thobe- A loose, long-sleeved, ankle length garment

* Tagiyah- Its a white knitted skull cap that is worn under the Ghutra

*Ghutra- Is the scarf that is tied upon the head with a Agal

For the women it is somewhat the same there Traditional clothing consist of:

* Thobe- The same as what was mentioned above

* Abaya- Like a cloak worn either loose and flowing or wrapped around the body

* Boshiya- Veil worn across the lower part of the face

* Surwal- Are like trousers worn under the Thobe

I’m really excited to see what we will be presented with, the show is beginning and the first look is just beautiful it is everything plus some.  The model comes out with no shoes on and walking on her tip-toes and moving so gracefully and she is wearing such beautiful gold and the garment is just amazing!  I know your ready to see the first look that hit the run way we give you just pure elegance and beauty!

The fabrics that Siraj Sanad choose are just beautiful and the art work that is hand painted on them and the rare jewels that are in laid into the garments are just spectacular!

We where also treated to two pieces that where dedicated to NY and it was very moving to see and I loved every second of this show!

Then Just as we thought it couldn’t get any better he shocks us with stunning bridal gowns and I mean stunning!  The jewels that are in laid into the garment is just exquisite! I think this designer is a Visionary and has taken fashion to the next level and I’m just so thrilled to have gotten to see this amazing designer and to meet him!

I would like to introduce you all to the creative genesis of this most elaborate, breathtaking, alluring collection we give you Siraj Sanad!

We hope that you enjoyed this Designers Collection as much as we did.. Stick around cause there is much more to come!

Sunday 6pm Couture Runway Show Jack Guisso

We are back for the 6pm Show for Jack Guisso (Lebanon).  We are really waiting to see what is going to take place. I mean in all honesty this has been one of the best Fashion Weeks for me in a long time!  I have been attending the Mercedes Benz Fashion Week for several years but this show really tops it.  I’m so honored to be bring this show to you plus all of the HOT designers.  Just to let you know the Couture Fashion Week has already been schedule for February 18-20, 2011 for information and how to purchase tickets visit CoutureFashionWeek.com or info@couturefashionweek.com, you don’t want to miss this amazing Event!

As you all may or may not be aware but we weren’t here for Friday’s show because we covered another event for Fashion’s Night Out.  As we are waiting for the Jack Guisso’s Runway show to begin this amazing gown appears on the runway and it is from the Designer Amal Sarieddine (Lebanon)! Can you say WOW! I started shooting this gown as soon as I saw it, I was so sorry that we missed this show but hey, you cannot be in two places at one time.  Enjoy the shots!

Okay the lights are dimming slightly and we know what this means the next great show is about to start.  The LCD Screen lights up with the Designers Logo!

Then this beautiful singer comes out in a gorgeous gown by Jack Guisso and its singer Cecilia Herrera Frioni again and Violinist Jane Hunt such an amazing performance! If you haven’t heard music by either of these ladies make sure you go out and purchase a CD they are excellent!

You know at Bryant Park we never had any kind of entertainment like what we have had here I mean the most entertainment we may have gotten was some celeb taking to the runway.. Its show time and we are all poised and ready to see what is going to be offered! OMG!! Can you say pure elegance and spectacular gowns and the detail work on the collection is to die for!  I mean we are being just hit with one great look after the other Jack Guisso is incredible!

You know they really like to tease you because just as you think the Guisso show is over nope more Fabulousness comes out on the runway and blows your mind even more! I think to myself where do they pull this major creation from and what inspires each of these designers to out do themselves hands down! Jack Guisso made sure we took notice of her collection and she didn’t waste one moment of her time on anything she just was interested in wowing everyone in the Grand Ballroom!

I’m so hyped after this show because she gave us so many different looks and elements that its even hard for me to sit here and write and tell you about this Fabulous runway show. Couture Fashion Week is right where all these designers belong because they are bringing elements that some of the top Designers at Lincoln Center wish they had thought of and gave this kind of detail and shock and awe to everyone in attendance!

Stick around I have more coming we have the 8pm runway shows we will be attending and you don’t want to miss one bit!

8pm Couture Fashion Week Show part 2

We are ready to see what Designer Luis Machicao (Peru) is going to offer us.  I’m a little tired because we have been having late night after late night and early morning after early morning.  My energy level is very high because I am just in love with every element of this Couture Fashion Week.  I have my coffee in had and just waiting for the dimming of the lights!

YES!! It’s Showtime!! The music comes on and the lights dim slightly and the LCD screen lights up!

The model takes to the runway and all I could think to myself once seeing a few models and the collection that this feels a little like Stepford Wives/Jackie Kennedy meets the 21st century and it is really amazing! The gloves the shoes the whole collection is very feminine and flirty but, has a sex appeal that isn’t overt.  Luis Machicao is really doing things that are so different from anything we have seen thus far! I think you are really ready to see Luis Machicao’s line

Pure beauty and elegance is all I have to say we give you the designer himself Luis Machicao.

Stay close to where all the action is Lapazimageing Fashion Forward! We will be right back with the closing show Edwing D’Angelo!

The Finally of Couture Fashion Week Closes with a BANG!

Here we are at the closing show and it is the renowned Designer Edwing D’Angelo! The music starts and it is very today and it is telling us about Edwing and it is hot! Then next thing the Logo comes up on the LCD screen and it was just fabulous!

The lights dim and we see this beautiful silhouette standing back in the shadows and then the model emerges and YES it is Vanessa Simmons! Looking just gorgeous and so Fabulous she is rocking a short haircut now and is just beautiful!

The entire Ballroom went up in applause and her sister (Angela) was whooping for her. She came down the runway like an old pro and hit her pose and made eye contact with all the cameras and pranced back up the runway.  I mean everyone in there was just loving the energy and the moments.  Edwings’ collection was celebrating the NY error of fashion and it was kind of like Gossip Girls/Meets Rock sheek!

Then he decided we need a little swimwear and the key word here is little.. Lol! You have to love a designer that would put a man in a tiny-winy bikini.

I thought okay this is something very different and I want to know how many guy’s will be rocking this look that is all I wanted to know.. Then the crowd goes of yelling and applauding again and low and behold on the runway is Dawn of Dirty Money who is with Bad-Boy (P-Diddy)! She is killing it I have to say I just love her from when she was trying out for Danity Kane to just her energy that she gives off and let me tell you she can WALK!!!  She commanded the runway in a way that was spectacular!

I cannot begin to tell you what a wonderful collection this is! He rocked not only ladies fashions but he is rocking men’s fashion and much more.  We hope you like his collection as much as we did!

We give you the one and only Edwing D’Angelo of Edwing D’Angelo Design!

This has been such an amazing Fashion Week for us and I have to tell you we hope to bring you more exclusive article from Fabulous Designer, Cosmetic companies and much more.  Before we leave this article we want to give you some extra photos from our Couture Fashion Week.

8pm Runway Show Couture Fashion Week

Saturday, September 11th Continuation

We are back for the 8pm Couture Fashion Week shows, here at the Waldorf-Astoria, Grand Ballroom.  Everyone is chatting about the shows that we thus far have seen, and the excitement level is so high that everyone is just HYPED! We even see people trying to walk the runway (aka Catwalk) and doing there best end of the runway Fierce pose,  like the beautiful Diva’s that graced the runway during the show.   Even I got in on the hype and my photographer couldn’t help but to snap this shot (honestly we was test the lighting for the camera). The white string is my press pass such a great Couture piece of Jewelry.. LOL!!

Anyway back to work, we will be seeing 3 finale collections tonight starting with Katya Leonovich bringing us a taste of Italy, Korean Creation- Lilycomes by Jeone Mi Young and Hee Deuk by Hee Deuk Yang and to close out the evening will be the one and only Andres Aquino.

We notice on the runway a table sitting smack in the middle of the floor, and everyone is wondering how and what is it doing out there, is it apart of the show, did they forget it?  Just a little inside tip for you but, I won’t ruin it for you, but I know why its out there, and what is going to take place, I already got the scoop on this.. Shhhhh mums the word! We are signaled that the show is about to start and everyone is just ready! The the LCD screen comes on with the Designers Logo

the lights dim slightly and the music comes on kind of LOUD!  Like something you hear in Clash of the Titans and then out walks the Designer and this lovely model and stop at the table… The music is still pounding and all of a sudden Katya Leonovich starts painting the gown that the model is wearing!  Its just incredible and everyone is just perplexed and ready to see what in the world is going to come of this!

OMG! it is just beautiful and so fun and just magnificent that she did right there on the runway in front of us!  Reporters are just buzzing and the cameras are going off like CRAZY!! We knew right then and there we where about to see something different, young, flirty and playful but still very Couture, and I have to tell you Katya didn’t miss a beat!

Just as we thought it was all said and done the lights go out! Everyone is like what is happening and the music is still very LOUD, and then walks out this gown that had lights going thru it and it is just stopped everyone can you say “Amazing” the whole Ballroom just went up in applause!  Katya Leonovich is young, trendy and not afraid of taken risk with her designs!  We give you the Dress of Light!

That was truly something so different and just very Fashion Forward I have to say I really enjoyed this collection.

Stick around for more from Lapazimageing Fashion Forward we have two more Designers collections to go and you Don’t want to miss it!

8pm Runway Show Couture Fashion Week Continues!

Saturdays show continuation

The music starts again but I notice something a little different from the Han Couture show, the music doesn't take you to Asia it is more modern there logo appears on the LCD screen.

I’m ready to see what is about to come on the runway, I’m thinking maybe its going to be like the traditional Korean dresses known as Hanboks’. Hanbok’s are often characterized by vibrant colors and simple lines without pockets fuller skirts.  These are normally worn as semi-formal or formal wear during traditional festivals or celebrations.  I was really looking forward to this and then emerges something so not traditional.  The fabrics are flowing and flirty and nothing of what I had pictured in my head! I mean this was truly main stream.  The flower patterns of the fabric made you think of Cherry Blossoms, but nothing traditional was about this collection, it was very modern and bold.

This collection was so beautiful and feminine and we loved every moment of it! Here are the Designers of Korean Creations 2011.

Stick around our finale show is about to start and it is Andres Aquino. You don’t want to miss anything!

Closing the 8pm Couture Show is Andres Aquino!

Continuation of the Saturday Couture Fashion Week Show

We are so ready, the finally is here and it is the Founder and Producer of Couture Fashion Weeks runway collection and we are just feeling so excited to see what is about to take place!  The lights dim and we see on the large LCD screen like a Quartet playing and there stands this beautiful singer in this beautiful gown that was designed by Andres Aquino.  She started to sing and it was just beautiful and she sounded just great! This Designers show is starting off on a real high note.

As Cecilia Herrera Frioni is singing these beautifully panted figures start to emerge onto the stage like walking mannequin in bright colored attire and the boots they had on were just to die for! I mean I just wanted to have them in my collection in all honesty I could have just taken them off there feet! Anyway back to the show, they where moving just as graceful and had this act as if they had just come to life, I know you want to see them but wait its coming.

Let me tell you we knew we was in for something spectacular because this Designer didn’t just have one singer he had 4 singers, 2 different dance companies, Pianist and a bassist.  We would like to make mention of the performers by name in no particular order: Singers: Dillion McCartney, Ashley C. Williams, Cecilia Herrera Frioni, Sarah Elizabeth Charles, Pianist Jesse Elder, Bassist Ian Baggette, Dancers Michael & Ting Ting, The Cecilia Marta Dance Company.

Okay now that we have gotten that out of the way lets get into the show.  The music is very modern and if it is a sign of what we saw with the performances, we are going to be wowed! Next thing we know we see the logo of Andres Aquino and we know he is going to put this evenings show to bed in a big way!

Then the models started appearing on the runway and the audience was so charged up and ready to see everything that this Designer had to offer and he really didn’t disappoint anyone in that Grand Ballroom.  It seemed as if his collection was larger than life and it just was brilliant colors and fabrics that made all of us just take to our feet once Andres Aquino came out on the runway for his finale bow.  We would like to give you Andres Aquino’s magnificent, breathtaking and well thought out collection!

This was truly a wonderful day and night and we are looking so forward to being back here tomorrow.  We hope you have enjoyed our coverage of the Couture Fashion Week and we invite you to Like LaPaz Image/Event Consultants on Facebook so you will be able to view more of our great photos from the Couture Fashion Week shows.

Until tomorrow I’m Sonya LaRae

Couture Fashion Week, Takes Center Stage Continues!

Continuation of Saturdays 6pm Show

We are at the last 6pm Runway shows, and we are waiting to see what Catalin Botezatu of Romania will offer us!  I think that we are all just enthralled by all that was presented thus far and we just want to know how they will close this part of the show!

All of a sudden we hear the sounds of like owls hooting and birds singing and the music takes a tempo of something rather mystical.  Everyone is sitting on the end of their seat, just waiting to see what will come out from the darkness and the lights come up and this beautiful bird is standing on the runway!

The entire Ballroom just started to applaud and we knew we where in for a major treat.  I was so excited because as you know prior to any of the collections being shown we got the sneak peak of the makeup! Just in case you missed them before you can view them now.

The makeup and hair was so spectacular and now we are getting to see how it complements this particular Designers Collection!  Catalin Botezatu really wanted to let us know he was here and that we where going to be dazzled!  From the moment that the first look took to the runway you could hear nothing but the sounds of the cameras capturing every element, detail and turn!  The colors and the fabrics where just stunning and drew you in, it made you to see more!!  Catalin Boteazatu captured us hook, line and sinker!!

When this show ended the audience, reporters and camera people where all a buzz!  I knew right away that I had to see if we could get access to this designer and we got an opportunity to meet the Designer and to take photos of his collection up close and personal!

We have had an amazing day and its not over yet! We will be back here for the 8pm Couture Fashion Week show, so stay close to Lapazimageing Fashion Forward!
