Alexander Wang Leaves Balenciaga

Hello LaPazions, yes it is true that Alexander Wang is leaving Balenciaga after a three-year term with the acclaimed Parisian fashion house. This will make yet another incredibly talented Designer to leave a large fashion house to focus on their own label and design, within a three-month span.

First was Donna Karan departs from LVMH and her name sake, now Alexander Wang departs from a giant fashion house that he has had great success outside of his own label. I’m really uncertain what Lady Gaga is going to do because she rocks this label often:

Lady GagaThe CEO of Kering confirmed that Balenciaga and Wang chose not to renew their contract, and the last show of Spring 2016 in October will mark the end of Wang’s designs for the House of Balenciaga.  How it sounds is that this is a very amicable split but, you know in our industry you smile, look pretty and never allow the outside world see your dirty laundry.

We’re anxious to see what direction Balenciaga will take, in selecting a new Creative Director as-well-as; who they have their eye on to replace Alexander Wang? We’re excited to see what direction Wang will be taking his personal name sake and from the rumor mills, we hear that there maybe outside investors interested in the Designer and his label. Hey LaPazions, if you don’t know the name then you must have lived under a rock because, Manolo Blahnik is a revered about his luxury shoe Designer.. Come on any good Sexy in the City fan knows Carrie Bradshaw was Manolo addicted:Carrie Sex in the CityI have to tell you honestly, Manolo Blahnik is the guru of guru’s-when it comes to creating fabulous shoes as well as capturing the true essence of a woman:manolo-blahnik-swan-pump-twilight I guess when I heard the big announcement it just didn’t come as a major shock to me because; I’ve been one who has been waiting for Manolo to drop his accessories line but, we don’t have to wait any longer because at the end of this month, Manolo will be giving us a full-collection of stunning handbags that will compliment his stunning shoes!!

Ellen DeGeneres Empires Keeps Growing

Happy weekend edition LaPazions, Ellen DeGeneres’s empire is growing and she is becoming a “branding” mogul. Ellen, can add to her many talents and titles-Fashion Designer.  Earlier this month, Ms. DeGeneres launched her lifestyle venture brand ED with the help of Christopher Burch at EDbyellen.com which the site had a little over 300,000 registered hits and many items quickly sold out. We just found out that Ellen had now partnered with GapKids to bring forth her next venture which is rightfully titled GapKids X ED:x-ED shootGapKids X ED supports, encourages young girls to embrace and celebrate their individuality as-well-as; finding their own voices. I know this is something the Ellen really advocates for because she herself struggled with this very issue in finding and celebrating her own voice and individuality.  I cannot say I’m a fan of the looks or the collection as of yet because, I think it’s somewhat tomboyish and maybe pushing our young girls in a direction we’re not necessarily wanting the grunge skater girl look.

I like certain pieces in the collection which you can mix and match with other really cute things from GapKids. Here is your full-first look at the collection:

Hello LaPazions, I know all of you Swifties are going to lose your mind over this news!! Taylor Swift will be launching her first clothing line (not simply a piece) but, a full-collection in Shanghai, China which will coincide with the 1989 World tour; that is set to hit the country in November.Taylor-Swift-spotted-out-and-about-in-New-York-City

Taylor has collaborated with Heritage 66 company but, in true Swift fashion it'll be sold on one of “THE” largest e-commerce companies in China, none other than JD.com – This announcement is perfectly timed because, it comes on the heels of JD.com announcing they have opened its first virtual mall in the US.  Now talk about lining up all your ducks, this is one savvy business women if I may say so myself. 

Most people don’t know that Taylor is basically her own manager and makes the last call on what songs are going on to her CD, to the treatments for her tour and much more.  Look this is the young woman who took on Apple over having artist getting paid in the trial phase and won:Taylor Swift VMA's

I for one am not actually surprised at Taylor Swift throwing her hat into the fashion ring. Why? One thing we all know is that she loves fashion and loves making statements through her clothing. This young Millennial is one to watch-she has a huge influence on pop-culture and with young people ranging from ages 12+-20 something’s. Taylor Swift is huge on social media and that is what drives sales with most brands and she has Twitter, Instagram and Pinterest on lock.. Hey Swifties you can now really rock your girls look..

MAXIM Launching Swimwear Line

Hello LaPazions, I guess you all are scratching your heads thinking; hey isn’t MAXIM a magazine and not a clothing/swimwear production company. Yes that is totally correct, but, we don’t know if this is to just boost the readership of the magazine or to bring attention, but; it’s not the first magazine to branch off into fashion i.e. Elle and Vogue. The new collection for MAXIM, is set to debut on the runway at the four-day Funkshion Miami Swim Week (July 16-19) which was formally Mercedes-Benz Miami Swim Fashion Week- in South Beach. They’re priced between $76 and $320.

Here is what I personally find somewhat odd-since the magazine has new leadership Kate Lanphear seems that she is after more female readers. I read a recent article that posed the question “Is Maxim Launching New Swimwear Line to Support Feminism?” I honestly started laughing because, this is a magazine that exploits women and is sex driven. (Shaking my head at this statement) Ms. Lanphear stated in an interview: “She’s featuring beautiful faces and not just bodies.” In our research for this article we pulled from one of our team members subscription and uploaded the following covers- Which by the way only one cover which is from June/July features a face not a full-body shot:Taylor Swift June-July2015Charlie XCXEmily DiDonato August 2015Monica Dogra May 2015Ms. Lanphear during her CBS interview also stated: “Celebrating sexiness is at the essence of the brand, we’re not going to change that, but I think we can experiment with how we show sexiness. sexiness isn’t just about a woman’s body. It can also be about someone’s laugh or the look in her eyes. Our audience is driven, smart, confident, so they’re attracted to women who are just as driven, smart, and confident.”

Pause do you really think that most men that are buying Maxim or even Playboy are buying them for the driven, smart and confident cover models? Please, men are very visual creatures and what’s more stimulating than having a scantily clad woman donning your magazine cover (EVERYONE knows that SEX SELLS!) I don’t know exactly who Maxim and Ms. Lanphear is trying to fool; or how they think a line of swimwear is going to support feminism but, we will keep you posted and updated once the line makes its debut.

Levi’s New Spokes Model

LaPazions Stop the Presses!! Levi’s has a brand new spokes model and you will not believe who it is(deliberate pause) It’s none other than Alicia Keys:AK

Yes you heard me correctly- I could not believe it when it came across our desk. We love seeing Alicia in a new role other than fabulous composer/singer/songwriter/producer. Do you all know how many women (fellas we know you love her as well) look up to this woman and celebrate her curves? We personally think that Levi’s has hit the preverbal nail on the head with selecting A. Keys as their new face/spokes model. Levi’s has been around since 1873 and has a rich background and has been such a major staple in fashion and more than just denim, their legacy tells a brands development, change and growth.

Alicia, looks just beautiful in this ad and is so confident walking around the city that she loves so much and made a huge hit song “Empire State of Mind” that featured Jay-z. You can see the pride and just the maturity of this artist/songwriter/philanthropist/mommy/wife in this ad and it just brings forth such energy that only she can bottle:

LaPazions, yes you just read this correctly Donna Karen who is the Founder and brand of her name sake is stepping down. I think I went into shock when I received this information late today.  The 66 year old fashion Designer has been a staple in the way most highly professional working American women have dressed and are dressing- Seriously the DK brand and name are just synonymous with corporate America. 

We were fully aware that in either the early or later part of 2001 the French based company and major mogul LVMH Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton had purchased the brand but; they had stated: “No immediate plans to replace Donna Karen as a Designer” but, in the other breath they stated: “There will not be a showing for the September New York Fashion Week..” I was like WOW!!

I mean what exactly does this mean for the brand and what direction is Ms. Karen going to go now.. Well per a statement that she made:

“LVMH and I have made this decision after much soul-searching. I have arrived at a point in my life where I need to spend more time to pursue my Urban Zen commitment to its fullest potential and follow my vision of philanthropy and commerce.”

I for one am very sad to see and hear this news but, I know Donna Karen is on a bigger and brighter pathway and we cannot wait to see what she will bring and birth on her new endeavors. We’re wishing her so much success in this new chapter but, it’s a sad day in the Fashion Industry.DKNY1DKNY6DKNY8
