Your Skin on Chemo/Radiation Therapy:

Vlog Post: Denise Toledo Miss Mascara

Hey Fabulous LaPazions, we’re still going strong with our campaign “Divas For The Cure” along with our affiliates Gosh!About and Mind of a Diva. Today, I thought I would speak a little about skincare during this very tuff period you’re or may have gone through. I want to talk about the effects on your skin that you maybe going through at this time with chemo/radiation therapy.

Finding a safe and effective routine during treatment may be more challenging then you think; due to the side effects of radiation on the body and skin. Did you know your skin is your largest organ and often reflects what's going on inside our bodies; from stress, sickness, anxiety you name it our bodies absorbs it. In doing a little research and speaking with a few experts, I found out that treatments weaken the immune system. Your skins ability to protect itself from elements also diminishes over the period of treatment. Did you also know that dehydration and photosensitization of your skin is a common side effect?

Well here are a few tips to keep in mind:

1. Keep your skin as moist as possible at all times (You’ll hear this in our vlog post from Denise and a great product to try).

2. All products that come into contact with your skin MUST be free of toxins, dyes and synthetic fragrances.

3. Purchase products that soothe your skin with gentle ingredients such as: chamomile, passion flower or sunflower oil.

4. Try essential oils to replace your skin’s natural oils, which get depleted during treatments.

5. Use mineral makeup and protect the skin with a safe, natural SPF with broad spectrum protection to block UV rays.pic_skinNow here are a few products you should think about avoiding:

1. Drying Alcohols

2. Perfumes and synthetic fragrances

3. Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (we all need to avoid this ingredient)

4. Any harsh and abrasive cleansers and household cleaning products.

Now ladies most importantly for cancer patients is avoiding negativity-This truly serves NO purpose in your recovery. Yes your skin may feel and look harsh but, remember you’re prepared with the helpful tips we shared and keeping a good outlook will also help you in feeling looking and reacting better!

At this time we’d like to introduce you to our new affiliate Denise Toledo of Miss Mascara; who is such an amazing Makeup Artist that we’ve partnered with to do Vlog postings on a bi-weekly basis. I asked Denise joined us for our campaign DIVAS FOR THE CURE to give great beauty tips and she didn’t let us down! I’ll  formally introducing Denise in 2 weeks so stick close:We wanted to also give you a few bonus beauty tips to make apart of your beauty therapy:

Shop for Wigs: This is a fab time to experiment with new looks and colors-see who you feel like on a given day and have fun. Loosing ones hair can be very traumatic. Remember not all women loose their hair during treatment but, its good to have a plan B.

Re-Create Eyebrows: Purchase an eyebrow stencil along with a natural colored eyebrow pencil. Practice either filling in sparse eyebrows or draw in with a feathering technique for natural eyebrows if eyebrows are completely gone. Don’t get frustrated because this takes a little practice to get right and as the old saying goes practice makes better.

I sincerely hope this post was informative, helpful and uplifting! Please remember to visit our affiliates website http://www.goshabout.wordpress.com and http://www.mindofadiva.com for more informative and uplifting articles and to book a beauty season with Denise Toledo of Miss Mascara go to: http://www.missmascara.com

What Message is Elle Mag Sending:

Article by: Sonya LaRae-Certified Image Consultant/Certified Lifestyle Coach

Hey LaPazion, many of you are maybe fans of Elle magazine but, coming next week on the stands we’re going to have Actress/Comedian Melissa McCarthy donning the cover; which is fabulous in its self-I have some issue and several others seem to be raising eyebrows as well. You see McCarthy looks fabulous until you get to her outfit, I mean what exactly was Elle thinking?

I mean in all honesty this is a milestone for the magazine as you know because they haven’t had any women per say of size on any of their issues and now that they’ve decided to have Melissa why would they stick her in and ill fitted sack of a coat? Why wouldn’t they hire a Fabulous Stylist i.e. ME to style this gorgeous curvy star? What message are they really sending to women with curves? Melissa McCarthyI find myself being a little insulted that they would go all out for hair and makeup but, stick her in a gunny sack! I find its time for women of all shapes and sizes to be celebrated and taken on as sexy icons and that real women can see the Fashion industry isn’t just about a size 0 but, can appreciate and uplift Every lady out here that maybe reading, watching or buying the merchandise. ITS TIME FOR A CHANGE AND ELLE YOU NEED TO BE ASHAMED!!

Nutrition for Breast Cancer Patients:

Healthy Diet

Editor-in-Chief:Sonya LaRae

Senior Editor:Leah Leslie

Article by:Sonya LaRae-Certified Lifestyle Coach/Certified Image Consultant

Photos Provided:Google.com

Hello Fabulous LaPazions, in continuing our campaign “Divas For the Cure” many times after a diagnosis of breast cancer, women tend to re-evaluate their nutrition and health practices. We’re going to be speaking a little bit about diet and making changes for a healthier life/lifestyle after being diagnosed and surviving breast cancer.

Many times most women start to think about the cause of the cancer, is there diets-lack of exercise what? Yes diet can play a roll in a faster recovery so, we’re going to discuss a few ideas. Remember there are no food or dietary supplements that will act as “magic bullet” to prevent breast cancer from returning. Here are a few things you should try to implement sooner than later:

1). Increase intake of fruits, veggies and whole grains

2). Decrease fat intake to <30 percent of calories

3). Minimize intake of cured, pickled and smoked foods i.e. lunch meats

4). Achieve and maintain a healthy weight (no more than 5-10 lbs. over normal weight)

5). Alcohol consumption-should be done in moderation, if at all depending on your meds and what your doctor suggest

You should receive a nutritional consultation to setup something that will be more beneficial for your particular lifestyle and don’t limit yourself from eating healthier choices.

We hope this article is helpful and remember we’re here for you and hope you’ll also join our affiliates:mind of a diva-Jennifer BakerJennifer Baker-Founder/President, Editor-in-Chief of Mind of a Diva located at: http://www.mindofadiva.com for informative and helpful articles regarding #BreastCancerAwareness Month. Ending A Great Partnership:

Good Fabulous Monday LaPazions! Many of you may or may not of heard already that the ever so fabulous and sometimes quirky Designer Marc Jacobs is departing from Louis Vuitton after 16 years of partnering. Mr. Jacobs will be, actually has left LVMH as of this past Wednesday to concentrate on his namesake line.

During Paris Fashion Week Mr. Jacobs gave us a departure show that kind of took us from one period to another in his fabulous career with the label to the new collection which; was very dark and a little somber. I guess it was very fitting for this show being that this is a ending of a great collaboration of fine creativity, luxury label and the ending of something that has brought in billions of dollars for the both brands.MarcNow amid all the praises and admiration that Chairman and Chief Executive Bernard Arnault gave to Mr. Jacobs; we also know that the relationship had a few issues per “rumors” that have been circulating, that LVMH has had difficulties with the Designer sometimes erratic behavior.(side note: we can attest to this from the spring/summer14 show at MBFW)

Then amid all this splitting from LVMH he also split from long term boyfriend and hottie Lorenzo Martone:Marc and Ex-lover Lorenzo MartoneI guess Marc is cleaning house to move forward to new, bigger and better things that are on his horizons. We’re excited for Marc Jacobs for the success of his new cosmetic line that he’s launching well launched via Sephora and Neiman Marcus. We cannot wait to see where he will take his namesake label and many other major projects that we know he has underway.

Ladies this post we want to speak with you about doing self examinations, the importance of it and how often you should be examining, what are the six signs of possible breast cancer and how often you should have a mammogram. factsWith these statistics all women should check their breast for lumps, thickness and other changes. By examining your breast regularly you will know how your breast normally feel and look. How often should you be doing a self breast exam and what is the proper way to do and examination?self examYou should check your breast about once a month about a week after your period-Checking your breasts in the shower can be a convenient way to get the self exam into your routine. How do you do the exam? Press firmly with the pads of your fingers-Move your left hand over your right breast in a circle. Check all over and under your armpit and do the same for the other breast. If you detect or think you’ve detected a lump you should contact your doctor immediately so they can check and see if it is a lump or just a fatty pocket.

How Often Should You Get a Mammogram:

The United States Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) recommends:

  • Women ages 50 to 74 years should get a mammogram every 2 years.
  • Women younger than age 50 should talk to a doctor about when to start and how often to have a mammogram.

Here are six signs you need to look for when your examining your breasts:

  1. Lumps

  2. Dimple or indentations

  3. Rash on breast

  4. Breast skin puckering

  5. Nipple discharge
